Monday Blues: Vol. 1

Did you hit the snooze button 2 or more times this Monday morning? Did someone cut you off on your drive into work/class/wherever you go in the mornings? Was there a pile of work awaiting you once you arrived? Perhaps you have a new group project due in two weeks. Whatever the case, Mondays are rough but a good playlist can go a long way. Vol. 1 of my Monday Blues playlist is custom designed by yours truly with you and your Monday in mind. This playlist features chill songs to get your week started off right, vibe out to, and get over the Monday Blues. Turn this playlist on at work (I’m listening to it at my desk now,) when you’re trying to get some creative juices flowing, or when you’re just trying to relax to Smooth Hip & Hop and R&B.

When to Ask for A Raise and How to Actually Get It.

We’ve all been there. Working a job where your hours are 9-5 but you end up putting in 9-10 to show your commitment. After several months of putting in extra hours, covering for your absent coworker, or simply realizing your value you’ve decided your wallet deserves some growth. If you’re on the fence about asking for a salary increase, do a little self evaluation to determine if now is the right time to ask. You’re in good standing with your boss. A couple of weeks ago my friend told me a horror story about someone who asked for a raise. This guy showed up to work late, took excessive time off, and wasn’t even with the company a year! That is a prime example of when not to ask for a raise. However, if you and your boss are close, why not capitalize on your positive relationship? If you’ve noticed some extra pep in your boss’s step or she’s treating everyone to lunch, this might be a good time to jump on the opportunity and talk …

I Seem To Have Misplaced My Passion.

When I was in first grade I wanted to be a fire fighter. In second grade I wanted to be a marine biologist. By the time I reached middle and high school I wanted to be a broadcast journalist, TRL host or 106 & Park host. Fast forward to today, if you asked me what I want to be I’d respond “Successful” *cue Trey Songz ft. Drake*. It seems like when you enter college you’re forced to decide what you want to be and after you do there’s no turning back. Unless you want to spend 8 years in school with hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, if you’re on Financial Aid like the majority of college students. More recently, however, I’ve found myself working with little passion.  I wake up and hit the snooze button to put off sitting in traffic to sit at a desk for nine hours, but I do because I need that pay check. I want a job where I choose what time I show up. I want to work on projects that make …

My Top Favorite LA Ice Cream Spots

Up until I became an adult (so about a few months ago) I’ve always said ice cream was my favorite food. The inner child in me still has a soft spot, literally, for ice cream. So it doesn’t hurt that Los Angeles has several amazing ice cream spots that put a twist on the typical  scoop.  Here’s my top 3: 1. Jeni’s in Los Feliz. The mission statement on Jeni’s website reads “We are absolutely devoted to making better ice creams and bringing people together.” That’s pretty much my life motto (sort of.) The first time I went despite being known for lines out the door, it was totally empty and the guy working encouraged me and my friend to try as much as possible while we could. Despite the employees being super friendly, the ice cream is no fuss and the ingredients are premium (they have an Intelligentsia Black Cat Espresso flavor.) Also, since the flavors are so good, they don’t force you to choose just one.  Jeni’s offers an option to do two half scoops instead of one. My …
